Whitley Bay Bike Festival Programme 2008 Archive

TV Celebrity Chefs, the Hairy Bikers were kind enough to provide us with an article to grace the official 2008 Whitley Bay Bike Festival programme. Here it is again for the benefit of folks who either didn't attend the festival or who just didn't care to buy our beautiful, tastefully designed publication...

Si 'n' Dave do Whitley Bay...
by the Hairy Bikers
Food and motorcycling. Together an unlikely pairing, but what a carefree and satisfying life it can be, just roaming and rumbling along miles and miles of open road, straddling bikes, borders and boundaries in a relentless search for the grub of all nations…… just pull over at a choice spot and get a crackling fire on the go, chase down something furry for dinner, and it's hairies on the move!

But enough of us (if such a thing is possible), let's say a few timely words about this year's bike show......

We extend, of course, our oily hands and kindest regards to all who are taking part in or visiting the 2nd Whitley Bay Festival of Motorcycles, an event which would not exist but for the strategic efforts of Mick Farwell and his team (that's Mick playing the hapless filling in the Hairy Biker sandwich in that photo over there on the right, during our visit to the hospitable Avalon Hotel last year).

It should be a tremendous weekend. Gatherings such as this are what allow bike enthusiast and the adoring public a common ground to loll about, have a chinwag, admire the goodies on show and then, not unreasonably when fun is the dish of the day, get tanked up (in moderation, boys...) and fall over.

As we're currently back on the road we'll have to forego the assured merrymaking in the warm canvas of the beer tent this summer beneath the Beaconsfield stars, but we'll certainly see you down the Coast towards the end of the year, at the launch for the new extended all-singing, all-dancing Avalon…… you can carve the pair of us off a big, thick slice of that!
